You may have noticed that the space on the right of the Google search results, which used to contain ads, is now blank.
Google made this announcement yesterday and we've heard rumours that it might be to make space for Products Ads or Display Ads; at the same time, they are increasing the slots above the SEO results from 3 to 4.
Both of these changes are likely to have the effect of increasing cost-per-click because companies whose ads were previously in positions 5-8 will suddenly realize that their ads aren't showing, and will increase bids to make sure they appear in the top 4.
If you are running Google Ads, you might want to contact the person who is managing your PPC to ask them what they are doing about it.
